Overview
The Seattle Neonatology Practice has a steroid protocol for use in premature babies with significant lung disease. Recent research has investigated the risk/benefit of longer duration of steroids and timing of steroids. During this webinar, the current RDS/BPD rates will be discussed and historical steroid use in the practice will be reviewed. New research will be examined to determine whether the Practice’s protocol should be revised.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Compare the Seattle Practice's current RDS and CLD rates and VON data
  2. Review the current practice's steroid use protocol for premature infants with severe lung disease
  3. Examine the research studies for longer steroid courses and the effect of timing for steroid treatment on outcomes
  4. Discuss whether the current protocol should be changed in light of the new literature
