Overview
The genomic autopsy is a powerful tool for understanding causes of infant mortality. For many infant deaths, the underlying cause remains unknown even after a traditional autopsy approach. Additionally, the value of a genomic autopsy, or using genomic sequencing for postmortem diagnosis, is also poorly understood.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Discuss neonatal or infant mortality cases that may benefit from a postmortem genomic investigation.
  2. Describe the process of sample collection and referral for sequencing in the case of an unexplained infant death.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Discuss neonatal or infant mortality cases that may benefit from a postmortem genomic investigation.
  2. Describe the process of sample collection and referral for sequencing in the case of an unexplained infant death.
