Overview
The inherited bone marrow failure syndromes (IBMFS) are undoubtedly underdiagnosed, in both pediatric and adult hematology/oncology practices. The inherited marrow failure syndromes are a diverse set of genetic disorders characterized by hematopoietic aplasia and cancer predisposition. The clinical phenotypes are highly variable and much broader than previously recognized. Early recognition of these disorders allows for appropriate medical management and surveillance. This presentation will address identification of infants who would benefit from evaluation for a genetic bone marrow failure condition. In addition, features of genetic bone marrow failure conditions in the newborn will be reviewed.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Understand the rationale for early diagnosis of a genetic bone marrow failure condition.
  2. Recognize clinical features associated with genetic bone marrow failure conditions.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Understand the rationale for early diagnosis of a genetic bone marrow failure condition.
  2. Recognize clinical features associated with genetic bone marrow failure conditions.
