Amniotic Fluid Embolism (AFE) remains poorly understood contributing to insufficient preparation for acute emergencies by the obstetrical team. This presentation will address the diagnosis, management and the most appropriate supportive therapies for the treatment of Amniotic Fluid Embolism.

  2. Identify the most appropriate supportive therapies for AFE.
  3. Discuss the biases and limitations in the published literature on the reported incidence and maternal mortality rate of AFE.
  4. Illustrate the benefits of education, protocols & simulation for acute obstetrical emergencies such as AFE.
