Overview
The purpose of this educational activity is to enhance clinician knowledge in the ever-changing area of complications associated with Neonatology as well as promising new techniques and interventions for improving outcomes in this arena. This presentation will address the management of neonates born at less than ( or equal to) 34 6/7 weeks’ gestation with suspected or proven early-onset bacterial sepsis including the use of serial serum C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels to determine if treatment with antibiotics is clinically indicated.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Demonstrate improved clinical judgement for the use of antibiotics in the premature infant.
  2. Discuss the potential benefits of using serial serum C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels for the diagnosis of neonatal infection.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate improved clinical judgement for the use of antibiotics in the premature infant.
