Torri Metz, MD, MS, is Vice-Chair for Research and an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Utah Health. She is a practicing maternal-fetal medicine subspecialist.  Dr. Metz completed both her medical school and residency training at the University of Colorado. She then went on to complete her Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship and Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation at the University of Utah in 2012. Dr. Metz currently chairs the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship Affairs Committee, and is a member of both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Committee on Practice Bulletins-Obstetrics and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine Publications Committee. Nationally, she also serves on the Editorial Board for the Green Journal, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is an American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology board examiner for both specialty and subspecialty boards. She has received numerous teaching awards including the ACOG District VIII Mentor of the Year Award, and the National CREOG Award for Excellence in Resident Education. Her research interests include marijuana use in pregnancy, maternal congenital heart disease, and maternal morbidity and mortality.

              Dr. Metz is the former co-Chair of the Colorado Maternal Mortality Review Committee.  She is the current co-Chair of the Utah Perinatal Mortality Review Committee. She has contributed to the field by publishing data from Colorado demonstrating the contribution of maternal suicide and overdose to maternal mortality, which has received national attention. She continues to work in the area of maternal mortality prevention in the area of prevention of maternal venous thromboembolism.
